Sharon Spira-Cushnir joined Executive Service Corps of Southern California as Chief Executive Officer in January 2009, building on her two decades of distinguished service in the Los Angeles nonprofit community. Most recently Sharon was Chief Operating Officer of the local homeless service agency Chrysalis, overseeing all its programs including L.A.’s premier social enterprise. Previously she served as Vice President for Planning and Development of Phoenix Houses of California, responsible for program- and fund-development for the state arm of the nation’s largest nonprofit substance abuse treatment provider, and as Director of Grants Services for Pallotta and Associates, a Los Angeles-based full-service consulting firm for nonprofits. Earlier in her career, Sharon held positions with the L.A. County Department of Health Services and the United Jewish Appeal. Sharon has served on the boards of directors and advisory councils of several local, statewide and national nonprofit organizations. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Cornell University and a Master of Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, where her studies included an emphasis on nonprofit management. Sharon's husband Andrew Cushnir is also a nonprofit senior executive, and together they are the proud parents of grade-schoolers Freddy and Liza.
